Relationship between white matter microstructure and work hours

چکیده

Human social activities are realized by a synergy of neuronal activity over various regions the brain, which is supported their connectivity. In present study, we examined associations between activities, represented work hours, and brain connectivity as quantified using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). 483 healthy participants, DTI analysis was performed 3 T magnetic resonance imaging, hours were calculated, considering paid employment (the “Work for Pay” category), housework at Home” school-related study “Student” category). The correlations each class time indices analyzed. mean diffusivity (MD) values anterior limb internal capsule (ALIC) superior fronto-occipital fasciculus (SFO) negatively correlated with total (ALIC: r = -0.192, p 2.3 × 10?5; SFO: -0.161, 3.8 10-4). We also found that MD ALIC SFO in Work Pay category -0.211, 3.2 10-6; -0.163, 3.4 10-4) but not those Home or Student category. These results suggest associated white matter microstructure SFO. main difference other two appears to be type motivation—for example, external versus internal. Therefore, may related externally motivated activities.

White matter microstructure mediates the relationship between cardiorespiratory fitness and spatial working memory in older adults

White matter structure declines with advancing age and has been associated with a decline in memory and executive processes in older adulthood. Yet, recent research suggests that higher physical activity and fitness levels may be associated with less white matter degeneration in late life, although the tract-specificity of this relationship is not well understood. In addition, these prior studi...

Associations between white matter microstructure and infants' working memory

Working memory emerges in infancy and plays a privileged role in subsequent adaptive cognitive development. The neural networks important for the development of working memory during infancy remain unknown. We used diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and deterministic fiber tracking to characterize the microstructure of white matter fiber bundles hypothesized to support working memory in 12-month-ol...

White Matter Microstructure and Cognitive Function

In recent years, diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) has been increasingly used to explore the relationship between white matter structure and cognitive function. This technique uses the passive diffusion of water molecules to infer properties of the surrounding tissue. DW-MRI has been extensively employed to investigate how individual differences in behavior are related to v...

White Matter Microstructure in Idiopathic Craniocervical Dystonia

BACKGROUND Dystonias are hyperkinetic movement disorders characterized by involuntary muscle contractions resulting in abnormal torsional movements and postures. Recent neuroimaging studies in idiopathic craniocervical dystonia (CCD) have uncovered the involvement of multiple areas, including cortical ones. Our goal was to evaluate white matter (WM) microstructure in subjects with CCD using dif...

Regional variation models of white matter microstructure

Diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI) is a powerful in vivo imaging technique that is particularly sensitive to the underlying microstructure of white matter tissue in the brain. Many models of the DW-MRI signal exist that allow us to relate the signals we measure to various aspects of the tissue structure, including measures of diffusivity, cellularity and even axon size. From histology, we know tha...
